Betting Notes Ireland

About

A small site written in Sligo about how betting is regulated in Ireland, and about the small print people sign without reading.

Who writes it

It is written and run by Mykhailo Bovkun, based in Sligo. My day job is software and automation for small businesses in the west of Ireland, which is where the habit behind this site comes from: reading the terms, the register and the commencement table rather than the press release.

I am not a lawyer, and nothing here is legal advice. Where a claim rests on a document, the document is named at the bottom of the page so you can check it yourself — and please do, because these things change.

How it is paid for

Some links to bookmakers are affiliate links, marked #ad. If you open an account through one, the operator may pay us a share of what it earns from you. That is the whole business model; there is no paywall, no newsletter to sell and no sponsored posts.

Two commitments that follow from saying that out loud. An affiliate link never buys a good write-up: if an offer is bad, the page says so. And a bookmaker that is not on the Irish register does not get linked at all, however good the commission.
